In the Northwest corner of the Camp de Tarragona stands massif of the Muntanyes Prades, a territory which emphasizes on the lands of the environment. It is in the center of the comarca of Baix Camp where Capafonts, at a height above the sea of 751 metres. According to Joan Coromines, the name of the municipality comes from the Latin Caput fontis, place where there is the head of the source, in reference to the birth of the River Brugent.
The village is situated on the hill that occupies the central part Valley. The emplacement in soil slopes determines the layout of the streets, and explains the gap there is between houses them the bottom and the top.
