The origin of The Glass Castle dates back to 1422.
This year, King Charles VII gives the County of Aubigny to John Stuart, Earl of Darnley, Constable of Scotland in recognition of his loyal service during the Hundred Years War, in the battle against the English. A small glass factory, then located at the lake but demolished in 1815 inspired the name of "The Glass".
But the castle was not built until the late fifteenth century, during which Beraud Stuart, grand-son of John Stuart, on his return from the Italian campaign, erected the main building in the wake of the Chapel and joined the "Renaissance" Gallery built in 1525 by Robert Stuart, son of Stuart and Beraud comrade Bayard.
