La Rochelle is located in the center-west of France, 480 km from Paris and bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It is above all a port complex of first order, nestled at the bottom of the Pertuis d'Antioche. Protected by a barrier of islands (Ré, Oléron and Aix), the ships can come to shelter there in case of storm. The port of La Pallice dates from the end of the 19th century. Fishing, however, has remained artisanal and the importance of the port has declined. Today, La Rochelle has become an administrative and tertiary city. Since May 1988, a bridge connects it to the island of Ré.

La Rochelle has a rich historical heritage that makes it a pleasant city to live for these people and a great place of tourism. Among these monuments there are the Tower of the Chain, the Tower of St. Nicholas, The Tower of the Big Clock, The Tower of the Lantern, City Hall or the aquarium in the heart of the city. Every summer since 1985, the city of La Rochelle hosts the festival of Francofolies. Since 1973, the International Film Festival takes place there (second of France in number of visitors after Cannes). The Jazz Festival between the two tours has also become an annual event.
For a week, every year at the beginning of September, on the Port des Minimes, the Grand Pavois (sailing fair) which is at the pleasure of what the Mondial de l'Automobile is all about.
